Battle of Saratoga: General Burgoyne intended to march south to Saratoga, while General Howe went north to Albany. The King misguided Howe and sent him to Pennsylvania instead. So the Patriots cut off Burgoyne's route and the Colonists won. This lifted the soldier's spirits and convinced other European powers that the Patriots had a chance to win. This was the point that France became allies with America and Spain sent them help indirectly.
